Dobogo – Tokaji Aszu 6 Puttonyos 2013
Dobogo – Tokaji Aszu 6 Puttonyos 2013 is a full-bodied dessert wine from the world-famous Tokaj wine region in Hungary. Every bottle of Tokaji Aszu tells the story of the Hungarian tradition and history of winemaking. Sweet wines made from grapes affected by noble rot are typical for this region. The annual production of aszú is less than one percent of the region’s total output, so this type of wine is really precious.
As Tokaji Aszú is synonymous with tradition and fine quality, this wine has a reputation in the world. Tokaji aszú is the oldest sweet wine, so it is ideal for a special occasion to celebrate. We know Aszú as the king of wine as well and is a perfect dessert in itself. But we can be creative in pairing! A glass of Dobogo – Tokaji Aszu 6 Puttonyos is an ideal accompaniment for foie gras and blue cheese. Even Indian cuisine is a good pairing option. Or desserts that are not too sweets or contain citrus, hazelnuts or nut.
What makes this sweet, golden wine so precious?
The process of making Tokaji Aszu is very special and the whole process takes a very long time. Aszú berries are individually picked, then collected in huge vats and trampled into the consistency of paste (known as aszú dough). Must or wine is poured on the aszú dough and left for 24–48 hours, stirred occasionally. The wine is racked off into wooden casks or vats where fermentation is completed and the aszú wine is left to mature. The casks are stored in a cool environment, and are not tightly closed, so a slow fermentation process continues in the cask, usually for several years.
What does Tokaji Aszu Puttony numbers mean?
However, the concentration of aszú was traditionally defined by the number of puttony of dough added to a Gönc cask (136 liter barrel) of must, nowadays the basis of the classification is a little bit different. The puttony number is based on the content of sugar and sugar-free extract in the mature wine. Aszú ranges from 3 puttonyos to 6 puttonyos. We call wines above 6 puttonyos Aszú-Eszencia.
Dobogo – Tokaji Aszu 6 Puttonyos 2013 flavor profile
Dobogo – Tokaji Aszu 6 Puttonyos is deep gold in colour and wonderfully expressive on the nose with notes of fresh white peach and tropical fruit touches, including mango and pineapple. On the palate, it is beautifully vibrant with a great mineral acidity balancing the intense sweetness.
We recommend a bottle of Dobogo – Tokaji Aszu 6 Puttonyos for special family occasions or anniversaries.
